Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
What is a Thelemic practice? How would you know if one of your practices is Thelemic?
It clearly isn’t enough for the practice to just be “occult” in nature. That could mean almost anything from astrology to yoga. How about more specifically if it is a ritual? That doesn’t help much either since we regularly experience rituals throughout our daily life, even in civilian settings. Then how about Magick? Is your practice Thelemic if it is magical in nature? Again, magicians have been around for thousands and thousands of years, and part of many traditions, so nothing about that indicates that something is a Thelemic practice!
Now if a personal tells you they accept our central Holy Book, The Book of the Law, then it would be fair to call them a Thelemite. But a “practice” can’t accept anything, only people can. Besides, a Thelemite might be doing non-Thelemic practices, and a non-Thelemite might be doing Thelemic practices. So, what do?
It turns out that the key to understanding what makes a practice a Thelemic practice, or not, has nothing to do with its external qualities. It doesn’t matter what the external actions are taking place, what tradition it is from, nor which symbol sets are involved. What makes a practice Thelemic lies within the heart and mind of the practitioner themself. If the practice in question is in alignment with their True Will, and if their intention is aimed at the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel, then that practice is Thelemic. Only then will the practice help you realize your Godhead in the experience. On the other hand, even if it is a “standard Thelemic ritual,” if it is not in alignment with the True Will, or not in service to the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel, then that is not a Thelemic practice.
This explains why it is so important for each of us to discover our True Will. How can we align our practices with it if we don’t know what it is? So go forth and practice as you Will!
Love is the law, love under will.
