The Thelemic Calendar begins in 1904, the year in which Aleister Crowley received The Book of the Law and inaugurated the New Aeon of Horus. To commemorate the founding of Thelema and to represent the opening of the Thelemic New Year, the Book of the Law, Chapter II, v. 36-41, lists “A feast for the Supreme Ritual, and a feast for the Equinox of the Gods” as separate official holy days of Thelema.
Crowley states that The Feast for the Supreme Ritual is held on March 20 (The Law is for All). The supreme ritual is the Invocation of Horus, which brought about the opening of the New Aeon. According to Aleister Crowley (777, The Law is for All), each Thelemic year starts on the Vernal Equinox, coinciding with the Thelemic Holiday called the Feast for the Equinox of the Gods. The Equinox of the Gods is the term used to describe the Beginning of a New Aeon, or a New Magical Formula.
Since the Equinox of the Gods is celebrated on the Vernal Equinox, which typically will be March 19, 20, or 21, this can be confusing. Quite often, the two holidays occur on the same day. Because of this, the two are sometimes conflated and the Thelemic New Year is said to be March 20.
On Saturday March 20, 2021, Scarlet Woman Lodge welcomes you all to join us to ring in and celebrate the Thelemic New Year. Scarlet Woman Lodge members will be doing an adapted ritual of the Invocation to Horus, to honor the reason for the season.
